Our little family of four got hit HARD by influenza a few weeks ago. It started with our youngest, Rowan, and slowly knocked us down one by one. Our symptoms of fever, aches, fatigue, and congestion persisted until it finally relented a week later, and we were able to crawl out of our house and return to normal activities again.
“It takes a village” – this is a phrase I commonly hear (and commonly use) when discussing the challenges that arise while raising children. We often say it as an encouragement, a reminder that you don’t have to do this alone. We need community, and motherhood provides profound opportunities to ask for help and lean on each other.
In my first pregnancy with my daughter, I did a lot of research to prepare for labour and birth. I would spend my evenings reading positive stories of the birthing process, especially home births, as well as little encouragements and mantras
